Mara

Bio

Mara began practicing yoga 4 years ago, recommended by a doctor to help reduce stress, a trigger for her chronic migraines. She has suffered with headaches since adolescence. At the time she had just left her seven year career in public accounting, knowing the corporate world was a thing of the past. She planned for a career in cosmetology, but the moment she stepped on her mat her life changed. Yoga not only helped control and minimize her stress, it helped decrease the pain when she had a migraine.

Over time, yoga has completely transformed her mind and body. Yes, there is weight loss, but the strength and flexibility, the body awareness, the breath awareness, the calm and quiet of the mind - these are the things that are yoga. And these are the reasons she continues to be a student, and more importantly, that she is inspired to teach. Once she began to understand the endless benefits of yoga, she knew she wanted to share this passion with others.

Certified at The Yoga Joint in Fort Lauderdale, Mara was trained in the trademarked Hot Fusion Flow with influences from Vinyasa, Ashtanga and Yin Yoga. She also has a background in Power Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga.

Mara has the ability to customize any class to a specific client's needs using various yoga props or asana (pose) modifications. She has experience teaching to those with: pain (i.e. back and shoulder issues), anxiety/stress, neurologic disorders (i.e. headaches/migraines, spasticity), and hip replacements, and to pregnant women and the elderly. Additionally, she uses hands on adjustments in addition to detailed alignment cues to help students move deeper into poses.

Mara’s goals are to teach students to move mindfully while using proper alignment, to challenge students while providing a safe space to find peace of mind, and perhaps most significantly, to teach students how to breathe properly. She teaches a heated power vinyasa class, with a focus on breath and alignment, while integrating yoga-inspired strength training benefitting the entire body, from your fingertips to your toes. You will sweat and you will be challenged, but most importantly, Mara hopes to inspire, spreading her love of yoga to her students.
